Our Story

Bengal Brasserie first opened its doors on Milsom Street in 1987. Since then, this city has changed around us — new restaurants have come and gone, tastes have evolved, expectations have risen.

We have remained. And now, under new ownership and with a renewed sense of purpose, we are ready to show Bath what we are truly capable of.

A fixture on Bath’s finest street

Milsom Street has always stood for quality. Since the eighteenth century it has been home to independent merchants, artisans, and establishments that take their craft seriously. Bengal Brasserie has been part of that story for nearly forty years — serving students, locals, and visitors who returned again and again, drawn by the consistency of our cooking and the warmth of our welcome.

The restaurant that greets you today honours that legacy. The address is the same. The devotion to Indian cuisine is the same. What has changed is everything around it — the kitchen, the team, the ambition, and the vision of what an Indian restaurant in one of England’s great cities should feel like.

Bengal Brasserie Bath - Interior - Tables 2

Reimagined, not reinvented

The new Bengal Brasserie is built on a simple conviction: that Indian cuisine, at its finest, is the equal of any culinary tradition in the world. It deserves to be presented with the same care, precision, and elegance that Bath’s dining scene demands.

This is not a reinvention. The recipes that built our reputation remain — the slow-cooked curries, the tandoor-fired breads, the regional classics that have always defined us. What has changed is the intention behind them. Every dish is now crafted to tell a story — of the region it comes from, the technique that shapes it, the heritage that inspired it.

From the vibrant street food of India’s bazaars to the regal gravies of the Mughal court, our menu traces the full breadth of the subcontinent’s culinary identity. It is Indian cuisine in its truest and most considered form.

A kitchen led by the finest

At the heart of Bengal Brasserie is a team of chefs who have spent nearly two decades in some of India’s most prestigious kitchens — heritage hotels, royal establishments, and restaurants where the standards are exacting and the traditions run deep. They bring that rigour to Milsom Street, along with the freedom and creativity that comes from making this restaurant entirely their own.

What sets our kitchen apart is not just what it produces, but how it engages. At Bengal Brasserie, our chefs do not remain behind closed doors. They come to your table. They share the provenance of a dish, the spice blend behind a curry, the regional story that inspired a recipe. Dining here is not simply a meal — it is a conversation between cook and guest, between tradition and the present moment.
